Malaysia Largest Clothes Buffet is back!

Calling all you ladies out there,

Mark your calendar cause the Malaysia’s Largest Clothes Buffet is back in town next month, bigger and better this time!

Unlike the previous installments of clothes buffet that was only held only for a day, this year it will be held for three days in a row from 25th to 27th April 2014 at Syopz Mall, Taylor's University Lakeside campus to accommodate more shoppers. Organized by LINs Communication and A Shopaholics Den, this event aims to bring shopping to a whole new level for young fashionistas without breaking the bank.

With just an entrance fee of RM60, you'll get access to 50,000 pieces of fashionable pieces to choose from in the buffet area. You hear that? 50, 000 pieces! Each of you will receive a ziplock bag and will be allowed to grab as many pieces as you can in 15 minutes. As long as you can fit the clothes into the ziplock bag and zip it, it is all yours to bring back home. If you can zip it and you can keep it :D
This is how the 9x14 inches ziplock bag looks like.
The record up-to-date was 16 pieces in a bag :O That's quite a lot, no?
Tip: Roll your clothes so that it can save some space for more pieces :P

Not just that, there will also be a shopping bazaar throughout the three days. A Blowout Sale will be held from 4-6pm daily as well where each item will be priced at only RM 10, such a steal. So don't miss out!

To avoid any disappointment, it's best to purchase your ticket to the Malaysia Clothes Buffet early to secure a place for you to shop till you drop. You can kindly purchase your ticket HERE. Since I've never had the chance to go for any of the previous Clothes Buffet, I'm looking forward to attend it!

Head to https://www.facebook.com/malaysiaclothesbuffet  or www.malaysiaclothesbuffet.com for more details of the event (:

See you there!

KUANTAN: What to eat?

Deciding what to eat is probably one of the most difficult decisions to make. However, not knowing what to eat is even worse, especially when you're at a new place for work, study or vacation. So I decided to come up with this Kuantan Food Guide to make your life easier :P it's okay, you can thank me later HEH

As you know, I was in Kuantan for six weeks for my clinical placement so of course I had the chance to explore the town and try out some good eats during the weekends. There's nothing much to do there anyway. I'll blog about my visit to their beach as well as Sungai Lembing soon too (:

Hoi Yin Curry Laksa

Assam Laksa is famous in Penang but in Kuantan, they serve curry mee almost everywhere, which explains the amount of curry mee that will be featured in this single post. Hoi Yin is one of the highly raved halal curry mee in town but somehow it doesn't live up to my expectation. The broth wasn't thick enough to my liking and the curry flavour wasn't that strong either, lacking of the extra oomph. I thought it was just me, but the rest seem to agreed with me as well. It's advisable to come earlier cause the place is always packed even at 9am and their curry laksa usually sells out very fast.
Each bowl comes with steamed chicken, cockles, fish balls, fish cakes, bean sprouts and tofu puffs. You can opt for kuey tiao or bee hoon if you dislike yellow noodles.

Curry Mee and Nasi Lemak @ Kedai Kopi Ah Soon
Dry noodles with Yong Tau Fu in curry gravy.

Nasi Lemak with Curry Chicken -- RM4.50.
Nasi Lemak with Fried Egg -- RM2.10.

Ayam Merah for a less-spicy alternative.

One of the kopitiams that serves good breakfast in Kuantan. They have a few stalls under one roof and the two popular ones are the curry mee and the nasi lemak. The yong tau foo were pretty good and reasonably priced while the dry noodles was just alright.

The nasi lemak on the other hand was the bomb which I highly recommended! We even went back to have it again before we left Kuantan. The sambal was delicious and not too spicy, I can even have it with just the fragrant rice and fried egg cause it was that good. Besides chickens, they do have other sides to go with the nasi lemak. Be sure to be there early (opens at 8am) cause they sell out pretty fast too!

Kedai Kopi Ah Soon (Non-Halal)
Lorong Kubang Buaya 21,
Off Jalan Kubang Buaya, Kuantan.
Operating Hours: 7.30am till noon.

Assam Fish @ Ah Wah Restaurant

Another place that I would recommend for dinner (: They serve Thai and Chinese food. We went there for the assam fish cause it was said to be their signature so you can see every tables ordering it. I must say, it did not disappoint at all! The assam fish was served with metal dish with charcoal underneath to keep the gravy warm. The gravy was indeed appetizing and spicy. Since it is refillable, you can't help but to add more rice as well.
Assam Fish topped with long beans, okras and pineapples | Yau Mak | Seafood Tofu | Pandan Chicken
P/S: Their homemade chili sauce was lip-smacking good too!
The total bill came up to less than RM50. Pretty affordable, no? Definitely will come back again and I just got to love them for their fast service and friendliness too!

Curry Mee & Yong Tau Foo @ Jess Cafe
Curry Mee | Dry noodles with Yong Tau Foo in clear soup or curry gravy |

This was our favourite spot for curry mee and yong tau foo in Kuantan. The curry gravy was thick and flavourful, love it! For those who prefer something less oily, you can always opt for the clear soup to go with your yong tau foo. As you can see, their fresh yong tau foo is generously stuffed with fish paste and chives. Love every chewy bite I took. Their service can be quite slow on a busy day.

Cendol Air Putih

How bout a bowl of cendol to combat the heat? (;
I love how they serve it in yellow bowls, such happy colour!

Cendol Biasa -- RM1.70
I would recommend to just go for the basic, not too sweet (:

Cendol Pulut -- RM2.10

The place where the locals would go to get their cendol fix, perfect for tea-time since they sell some kuih and nasi lemak as well. Definitely one of the best cendol I've ever had, truly living up to its name. Nuff said. It's impossible to miss this small shop located at the corner of the shoplot, cause it's basically painted in yellow too with a big signboard.

Kuantan, Pahang.
Operating Hours: 12pm - 6pm (Tuesday to Sunday)

Alor Akar Seafood

Another popular eating spot recommended by the locals for dinner which we went for our Chap Goh Meh dinner. I heard that it is always crowded especially during the weekend and public holidays so I called in a few days earlier to make a reservation. However, we went there to find out that our reservation was so called invalid cause there is only the four of us. Well, they could have just told me on the phone the other day. That was not just it, the aunty scolded us and didn't even intend to get us a table, how rude. We had to wait  if we want a bigger table but we settled for a smaller one in the corner, such mood spoiler.

Toss for good health, prosperity, happiness and may we all graduate with flying colours this year!

As usual, I ordered the signature dishes; Alor Akar Seafood Tofu and Beggar Chicken to try out.
The Beggar Chicken was really good and cooked to perfection. The meat was tender and the gravy was so fantastic I personally dislike anything that taste herbal but this was exceptional (Y) Since the chicken comes in only one size, the portion was a tad too big for us that we have to take away the leftovers.

Fresh yam paste with well marinated and succulent pork ribs.
I guess it would be better to go in a larger group so that you can try out more dishes. The food was not bad and reasonably priced, wouldn't mind coming back if they have better service.

Alor Akar Seafood Restaurant

Satay @ Terminal Satay Zul

Your trip to Kuantan will not be complete if you don't visit Terminal Satay Zul for their satay! Deemed as the locals' fave satay place. I was pretty surprised to find that they serve rabbit and venison satay too. We only tried their beef and chicken satay cause the mutton satays were sold out already.

Beef satay -- RM0.70 per stick.

The beef satay were not that tender, having a hard time eating them but the chicken satay were alright. Their satay were meaty and well marinated, and oh I love their peanut sauce! You can order their nasi himpit  to eat with their peanut sauce. Besides satay, they do serve a variety of fried rice and even bakso.

P/S: They even have a counter specially for take away too.

Terminal Satay Zul Kuantan
A-2600, Jln Alor Akar,
26250, Kuantan, Pahang.
Tel No: 09-568 7859 / 017-970 0161
Operating Hours: Opens from 6pm daily.

Mango cheesecake @ Kula Cafe

I was so happy when I found out that they do have concept cafe here that serve desserts and coffee in Kuantan as well. Too bad they don't serve coffee at night but just bottled drinks, meh.

Pretty cool outdoor setting with tables and chairs made from woods.

Red Velvet with Cream Cheese, Mini Pavlova and their famous Mango Cheesecake.

The former two were quite a let-down but we enjoyed the mango cheesecake to bits! If you're a fan of mango and cheese, you'll love it. You'll find a sweet balance between mango and cheese, none of them overpowering one or another. They do have a wide selection of cakes from creme brulee to brownies and Toblerone cheescake but we find them so-so only.

Western Food @ Teluk Cempedak

For cheap and yummy western food, this is the place you should go! It's located at the far left end of the beach, search for this Europe Western Food stall which is run by a Chinese Family.
Lamb chop with black pepper sauce -- RM15.00

For the price I pay, I wouldn't complain at all. Plus, look at the huge portion. People normally come for their chicken chop; either deep fried or grilled. The black pepper sauce was too peppery to my liking, I prefer their mushroom sauce.

Europe Western Food @ Teluk Cempedak Food Court
Jalan Teluk Cempedak,
25000, Kuantan, Pahang.

Roasted Duck Noodles @ Restoran Hoo Seng

Roasted duck with char siew noodles -- RM6.00

Roasted duck drumstick noodles -- RM7.50
Another famous stall among the locals as you can see the crowd building up people the moment they start their business. The roasted duck really stole the show, so juicy and tender but the char siew wasn't that impressive to me. I would recommend their wantan as well!

Tong Koon Roast Duck Noodle @ Restoran Hoo Seng
Jalan Haji Ahmad, Jalan Beserah,
25300, Kuantan, Pahang.
Operating Hours: 12pm until sold out.

So that pretty much sums up the good Kuantan food that we had over the six weeks (: Hope I didn't make your tummy grumbles at the end of this post :P Not sure if I missed out any other good eats, but do let me know if you have better place to recommend!

Till then, have a nice week ahead.

Kyochon Chicken 1Utama Grand Opening

Hi there! Can't believe we are already in the third month of 2014 and I'm still blogging about event that I attended back in January. Failed big time, I know T__T

When it comes to Korean food, people will associate it with bibimbap, kimchi and bulgogi but there is this new korean food that is slowly getting its recognition in the korean food culture which is the Korean Fried Chicken, which coincidentally spell as KFC too HAHA in fact, it is claimed that it is now the no. 6 most popular dish in Korea. Honestly, who can ever say no to fried chicken? I guess you've heard that the multiple award winning and Korea's Number 1 Fried Chicken brand has finally open its first restaurant in Malaysia! All thanks to Churp Churp, I had the chance to attend its grand opening at 1Utama two months back.

One of the three lucky tables that has signatures of two Super Juniors' members. In case you couldn't tell, they belong to Kangin and Kyuhyun :P and yes, Super Junior are Kyochon's brand ambassador!

The first time I heard about Kyochon chicken was from Churp Churp through their ChurpOut event last year. Initially, I seriously didn't get the the hype over these fried chicken (probably cause it was from Korea *cough* y'know k-pop culture fever never subsides in Malaysia) until I personally tasted them.
The different types of freshly prepared Kyochon Fried Chicken we get to taste that day. And oh that's the Natural Sparkling Yuza Juice Tea on the right, simply refreshing!

Mmmhmm, that explains it all (:

The Sal Sal strip; boneless chicken breast strips coated in special rice batter where you can't find elsewhere. Perfect for those who doesn't like eating messy (;

The original and the red series wings.

The ones that are glazed on the left are the honey series while the those on the right are the original soy flavoured.

Verdict: I personally love the honey series fried chickens cause it's sweet and savoury. The chicken seem to be well marinated and fried to perfection. Every bite is enjoyable! The red series are too hotspicy to handle that I can't even that small piece of mid wing, not recommended unless you can really really take spicy food, I mean it. Check out here for their full menu!

Unlike other fried chickens, Korean friend chickens are smaller in size as they usually use mid-wings, drumlets, or small chunks of thigh meat, if you notice. Another uniqueness is also the method of preparing these fried chickens. As a pioneer and innovator in its field, Kyochon 1991 began double-frying their chicken in a scientific and calculated manner to ensure the finest result. The first round cooks the flesh evenly to retain the moist juices whilst removing excess oil, where it is then deep fried again for the perfect crunch, and finally glazed with special sauces imported from Korea made in state-of-the-art factories. The result is chicken that is as crispy on the outside as it is juicy and tender on the inside, while at the same time using far less oil in the process than conventional fried chicken. The texture of the chicken also differs than the usual one we had. Besides, KyoChon promises to deliver food made only from the healthiest of chickens, and in the process use only the finest natural ingredients possible. So now we can indulge healthy fried chickens without a slight tinge of guilt YAY On a side note, they are working on getting the HALAL certification, so double YAY so that even all of our Muslim friends can have them as well!

Bernard Hiew was the emcee of the day :D So bubbly as usual!

Speech from one of the VIPs.

One group photo of us churpers for the album! :D

And of course, how can I not have a photo with Siwon Oppa? *blushes and he's not even looking at the camera HAHAHA I actually didn't know who this statue was until Vvens told me :P
Go try them out and be chickenlightened!

I didn't go home empty handed that day -- there are Kyochon 2014 Calendar filled with portraits of SuJu and a RM20 voucher too in the goodie bag :D

As I'm blogging about this, I'm craving for the fried chickens at this ungodly hour. Oh Lord, definitely going back again!

Watsons Move Your Body Campaign

We hear a lot about living a healthy lifestyle but how many of us are actually living healthy nowadays? How many of you actually resolve to live healthier or work out more this year? :P I'm sure all of us are aware that a healthy lifestyle consists of exercising three times a week, eating healthy and staying away from alcohols and cigarettes. It sounds so simple yet it's funny how hard it is to do all of those things in our daily life. However, you can always start living a healthy lifestyle by making small changes and adding a little more activities to your life, be it just moving your body. Every little bit counts and it all adds up to burning more calories.

In conjunction with this year's World Health Day, Watsons Malaysia is organising this major fitness campaign entitled 'Move Your Body' to promote active lifestyles among Malaysians. This campaign will be running from 25th February till 30 March 2014 at all Watsons stores in Klang Valley and Negeri Sembilan.  To kick-start the campaign, Watsons Malaysia is collaborating with Hitz.fm and Celebrity Fitness to raise awareness through a flash mob which was held on 22nd February 2014 to attract the public on the ‘Move Your Body’ campaign.

As part of the campaign, individuals can create their own dance video and upload it on YouTube whilst submitting it to Watsons Malaysia’s Facebook page to stand a chance to win RM5,000 cash. Yes, you heard me right! RM5,000 cash prize! That's not just it, winners will also get the chance to perform at the final Move Your Body event on 30th March 2014 at Sunway Lagoon with the Hitz. FM crews. Sounds exciting? You betcha!

So this is my dance video; a rather short one. To be frank, dancing is definitely not my forte. Even worse when you have to dance in front of your friends who are recording while trying their best not to laugh at you :P I even forgot the dance steps in between, if you notice lol Hope you have a good laugh anyway HAHAHA on a side note, huge thanks to Joeann and Ai Yean in helping me out with this video.

You can check out the awesome music video with Jinnyboy and Dennis Yin in it as well as the tutorial video of the dance moves which is provided at http://www.moveyourbody.com.my/. The music (so catchy that it got stuck in my head for days, kid you not) is provided as well, so all you have to do is just choreograph your own dance moves and dance away! Pretty easy isn't it? So if you think you have what it takes to dance, don't hesitate to join and show us your grooves! You can even invite few of your friends to join in the fun, the more the merrier :D

Watsons VIP members will be able to purchase Move Your Body grand finale tickets worth RM120 for RM30 with any purchase from selected Watsons stores. Tickets will be available for sale from 25th February – 23th March 2014 in Klang Valley and Negari Sembilan. The first 300 customers will receive exclusive goodie bags, so don't miss out! Participants will have the chance to enjoy special dance performance and all day free entrance at Sunway Lagoon. In addition, there are many prizes for lucky draw to be won during the grand finale. The event will also include fun filled activities including face and body painting, mingling clowns and jugglers, and Watsons health supplier booths to provide a holistic yet exciting experience on active lifestyle.

Homebound

....in another 3 hours time. It was sort of an impromptu decision to fly back home for my one week break, a well-deserved break I would say after the crazy hectic schedule since December. Plus, it would be a good excuse to escape from the terrible haze and water shortage issue in KL. So, here I am updating my abandoned blog at such odd hour just cause I have to stay awake at the airport.

Now that I'm done with my final clinical placement, all I really need is to sleep all I can, eat all I want or just do nothing before preparing myself for my upcoming battle (read: FINALS) which is in another two months time. Yet at the same time, I keep telling myself that I should at least spare some time everyday to update my blog. It feels weird to be writing again after such a long break (like what, a month?) and I can't seem to put the words together anymore. I guess my list of pending blogposts will never ever end. Blogging mojo, where art thou?

Till then, peace out and keep march-ing on.
Update soon, I promise!

Edit: I'm home! Gotta first catch up with some sleep that I missed last night.

xx
